Living in Gerrards Cross with my wife and two dogs makes me appreciate how lucky we are to reside in this beautiful area, and it’s why I became a Local Town Councilor back in 2016. I wanted to try and give back to the Community where I lived. I quickly realised I had a passion for the Town and its integrity, and within months I was doing my best to organise pothole repairs as well as playing an active part in shaping the Towns amenities and local services.
I became the Mayor and Chairman of Gerrards Cross Town Council in 2021 and Chaired the Communities and Highways Committees, giving me valuable experience to help influence revitalising the Gerrards Cross street scene. My efforts included the first Christmas Extravaganza held on Packhorse Road with more than 3500 people enjoying a Festive Christmas light switch on, funded mainly by donations which I raised as Mayor. This was backed up by two hugely successful Picnic In The Park events held in June 2022 & 2023 where big crowds enjoyed a fantastic day out.
In May 2021 I was elected to represent Hedgerley, Gerrards Cross & South Beaconsfield in the Buckinghamshire Unitary Elections, and have since done my best to serve the residents and Community to deliver on their expectations and deal with their individual concerns and issues. My Unitary Council term finishes at the end of April 2025 and I will rely on your vote to keep me as one of your Buckinghamshire Unitary Councillor's for Gerrards Cross and Denham.
My reason for standing in the new Ward of Gerrards Cross and Denham is because I don’t feel my work is done in helping to make both Towns better places to live. I will make it my priority to serve you the residents and local communities with drive and enthusiasm, honesty and integrity. I will use experience gained from the past years in both Local and Unitary Council business to make this happen. I promise you my voice will be heard at Buckinghamshire Council on your behalf.
My contribution to the local community doesn’t stop at being a Unitary Councillor, as I volunteer at Wexham Park Hospital in the A&E department and have recently been elected as the Lay Member for the Chalfont Primary Care Network (PCN) representing over 38k patients within Gerrards Cross, Chalfont St Giles, Chalfont St Peter and the Seer Green Communities, and I’m a member of the Health and Wellbeing Committee on the Community Board which includes Denham.
My promise to you, will be to serve with drive and enthusiasm and to bring Gerrards Cross and Denham to the forefront on matters of concern at Buckinghamshire Council. I will fight for pothole repairs and highway improvements on the A40 and A413 in particular. I will hold the Council to task over flooding on our main roads, and I will aim to highlight the excessive HGV traffic passing through Denham and the resulting problems caused by the vehicles, in particular silt and detritus on the roads.
I have forged good working relationships with the Buckinghamshire Council Officers in all departments, which I will continue to put to best use on your behalf. Winning battles is about presenting a case and my negotiation skills have worked for me over the past 4 years
I am committed to supporting local business and to reversing the decline on our highstreets. I will engage with Landlords and Commercial Property owners to encourage new growth in Denham, and Gerrards Cross whilst being mindful of protecting our greenbelt and maintaining the integrity of our villages.
My role in the next Council term will be to listen to you the voter, to prevent the unnecessary expansion in Tatling End of an additional Film Studio, to push for improvements in the road structures in Denham, to protect our Communities from anti-social behaviour particularly on the Commons in Gerrards Cross and in specific areas in Denham. I will engage with Police Authorities to request better security and patrols in our villages to help make us feel safer in our homes and on the streets.
Being an Independent Councillor enables me to focus on what's best for our Communities and the Independence allows me to prioritise local needs over political agendas. I will not be affiliated to a political party, but I will still fight for the important issues that matter to you.
Please tick the box for “Andrew Wood” on 1st May and put your trust in an individual that has proven his value to the community he serves.
My word is my bond, and I promise I will serve you the best I can to deliver on your expectations.
